What is Ladaai?

Ladaai is a Hindi word that means feud or conflict. The film revolves around the story of Dindayal Sharma (Mithun Chakraborty), a poor man who works for Dinanath (Anupam Kher), a wealthy businessman. One day, Dinanath's associate Sunderdas (Raj Tilak) is killed by an unknown assailant. Before dying, he accuses Dindayal of killing him. As a result, Dindayal is arrested and prosecuted by Shakuntala Verma (Rekha), a public prosecutor who later becomes a judge.

Dindayal is found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment. His wife Shanti (Rohini Hattangadi) gives birth to twin sons but loses her mental stability and is institutionalized. Eighteen years later, Dindayal is released from jail. He takes a gun and confronts Shakuntala at her home. He then kills himself but before dying he asks Shakuntala to avenge his death by finding the real killer.

Shakuntala hides his death from everyone and finds out that Dindayal has a look-alike son Shera (Mithun Chakraborty), who is a street fighter. She recruits him to track down three possible suspects: Radheyshyam Pundit (Satish Shah), Nissar Khan (Amrit Pal), and Peter (Gulshan Grover). Shera agrees to do so for a fee but he is attacked by the trio. He decides to not have anything to do with this matter and denies being Dindayal's son or Shanti's son.
