I'm a little confused. I'm trying to download movies I purchased from iTunes to my 4th gen AppleTV. Is there a way to do that, or does it do it automatically when you tell it to play? From what I understand Apple is utilizing an aggressive form data management for AppleTV, but does that mean you can't just store movies you want to keep on the hard drive? Also, is there a way to have quick access to movies you've purchased? Thanks!

It is a streaming only device, again the storage is only for apps. If you are encountering buffering then that is due to your network. The alternative woild be to download to computer or IOS device and use AirPlay. There is a purchased tab right in the movies app, if you have a lot of content then you would need to search. and you can also use Siri.

Another example is 1080P HD content - my network sometimes has to re-buffer content that large. I would love to have certain purchased 1080P content downloaded instead of always having my ATV set to only watch 720P to avoid re-buffering issues.

You can accomplish that. Download the movie 1080 to iTunes and enable home sharing to access the file over your local network. I have a 3 tb external drive thats used when purchasing movies/music from iTunes (or any other provider). Then I can access via any of my ATVs (assuming they are on the same network). I play movies in the bedroom, music in the garage and cartoons in the livingroom all via home sharing. Though if you have network issues this solution would not work but this is a streaming device So you just need to troubleshoot the issue with your network. Not that you have to stream from the cloud rather that files are streamed to the device without storage. Just like its competitors that don't have onboard storage Roku, firetv Chromecast etc...

Right, I know it is still streaming, but I was hoping that you could download a movie to the hard drive so it didn't have to buffer. I know the iTunes movie app is where my movies are, but it seems kind of complicated to have to search for my purchased content when they could just allow a shortcut to the home screen directly to purchased movies.

Thanks for your help! I have an iPhone and MacBook Pro so I'll just download them on that. To be honest, it still seems silly that that function doesn't exist on the box itself, but it is what it is. I also think that Apple could have made it easier to access purchased movies. Like a favorites option. If someone wants to watch a movie everyday seems kind of odd to gave to search every single time. Of course, I can just use my other devices as I said before. I just think they could make it easier. As for network issues, the iTunes movies are the only things that buffer. My apps stream perfectly, and I play mmos on my Xbox and Playstation #firstworldproblems #reallynotabigdealtho

I have requested this feature as well. Everyone keeps saying "it's a streaming only device" as though something can't be changed. Our i-devices have this feature, and I'd love to see it on the ATV4 as well. 64GB is overkill on a device that can't download purchased content, even with a lot of games downloaded. We have a bunch of movies that get watched frequently, and I'd love to be able to download just those 3 or 4 movies to have handy for the kids. Plus, not everyone has super fast internet - this would help with keeping my network unclogged a bit.

You should be downloading movies to your computer anyway to avoid potentially losing content that is removed from the store. As long as your local network operates well you should have no issue streaming to the ATV via home sharing. One of the biggest things that users confused with the 1st gen device was that it was a backup simply because it could store media, and there were many cases where content was lost due to not having a proper backup when the syncing computer was damaged.

This is the most ridiculous answer ever. Who would ever download 64g of apps? I was told it could download movies, hence I bought it for when I was out of wifi/network we could watch some movies. So now I need to shlep my macbook along with my appletv and hope there is wifi? so why do I even need the appleTV when I could just connect my macbook directly to the tv?

No kidding. Found this out as I'm setting it up for my mother for Christmas. This was the entire point of getting it for her as her internet service is spotty at best. The ability to download and watch offline was the sole selling feature. Deflated, and dejected as the centre-piece gift is going to make life more difficult for her when it was meant to streamline.

Attention all Netflix users: you can now download shows and movies for offline viewing. This is not a drill. Want to binge Stranger Things or Orange Is the New Black, on an airplane or on the road heading home for the holidays? Go wild. Want to watch The Imitation Game on a two-hour subway ride? Knock yourself out.

After what seems to be an eternity, Netflix has finally updated its application to allow users to download TV shows and movies for offline viewing. This will prove particularly helpful for long car or airplane rides, or just about any other situation where you might not want to put a dent in your data cap while watching your favorite episodes of Bojack Horseman when not connected to Wi-Fi.

By default, the Netflix app will download content only when you are connected to Wi-Fi, which is the right thing to do. In my opinion, you probably want to leave that option enabled, but if you have a large data cap or an unlimited plan, then you can easily turn it off in App Settings > Wi-Fi Only.

When it comes to the video resolution, you can choose between two different options: standard and higher. As you would expect, the higher video quality means the content will take longer to download, and more importantly, it will require more storage space, so if you have a 16 or 32GB device, this is something to keep in mind.

1) Look for TV episodes, documentaries or movies in the Netflix app on your iPhone or iPad. You can either use the search feature, or use the newly created Available for Download category.

To delete movies or TV shows one at a time, navigate to the My Downloads tab, then swipe left on a show or movie you want to download, then tap on the red X icon.

To delete all your downloads at once, navigate to the App Settings tab, then tap on Delete all Downloads, and confirm you do want to delete everything.

We recently removed the ability to purchase and rent content in Samsung TV Plus, so while your movies and shows aren't listed in TV Plus, they are all still available in the Fandango Now app. You can even link your Fandango account with Movies Anywhere, and access your movies through other great apps like Google Play Movies and VUDU.

Before watching Peacock on a Samsung smart TV, users will need to have a Peacock account. This can be created by visiting the Peacock website, entering an email address, and then choosing the right subscription tier. To download the app on a Samsung smart TV, simply do the following: from the home screen, navigate to 'Apps' and then select the 'Search' icon. Then it's just a matter of performing a search for 'Peacock' and clicking on the 'Install' button on the Peacock app page. Once the app is downloaded, the user will find Peacock listed on the home screen. They'll have to sign in to their Peacock account when first launching the app before they can start streaming.

If users can't find the Peacock app on their Samsung TV, they will need to check the model of TV they're using. The Peacock app is only officially supported on Samsung smart TVs from 2017 or later. If someone has a Samsung smart TV from before 2017, Peacock isn't going to work. If the app has been downloaded, but users encounter issues like freezing or crashing, there are a few things to try. The first is to cold boot the TV. To do this, hold down the power button on the remote for about five seconds until the TV turns off and back on again. If users don't have the remote handy, they can unplug the TV from the wall outlet, wait 30 seconds, and plug it in again.
